Salacia reticulata

Salacia reticulata belongs to the Hippocrateaceae family and grows in India and Sri Lanka. Salacia reticulata has been used in Ayurvedish medicine for over 4000 years. The leaves and root extracts are used for the treatment of blood glucose which regulates the feeling of hunger, this in turn helps with weight reduction.

Research shows that the active components of Salacia reticulata, Salacinol and Cotalanol, are a-Glucosidase inhibitors. A-Glucosidase is a carbohydrate disruptive enzyme in the intestines. Through the restriction of a-Glucosidase, carbohydrates in the intestines are built up and the uptake of glucose and monosacharids in the blood are delayed.

Furthermore, Salacia reticulata has Mangiferin that restricts the sugar released from the liver. Magniferin helps to decrease the blood sugar levels.
